Q: How can parents help their kids get the most out of online learning?

A: “One of the keys is time management,” says Doug Bird, coordinator of online learning, adjunct instructor and director of the Parker MBA Program at Lake Erie College. “If you have something that’s due tomorrow and you haven’t even started, there’s no way that you’re going to be able to put together something that is better than below-average in quality. I would strongly recommend that the parents identify small, success-oriented experiences for the child to show them that when you do this [a certain] way, you get this positive outcome. Make it very straightforward and simple, and then you build on that so they can get in the habit of understanding that this is a viable way to learn.”
