Q: Why should parents and students choose the community college route to limit student debt?

A:  “The obvious answer is affordability, but it’s more than that,” says Karen Miller, provost at Cuyahoga Community College. “The Ohio Department of Education has done a great job of promoting the ease of transferability, so students have a great opportunity to start at a community college and move to a university with a junior status. The state reviews the curriculum of community colleges just like every other university, and we all work to meet the same standards. Plus, all transfer credits are approved in advance. As for savings, a student coming here for one year could spend about $2,500. You can imagine the difference between this cost and that of a four-year university, whether you are commuting or living on campus. It’s affordable, high-quality education.”
