Q: How can students understand what it means to be a good leader?

A: “Clear expectations and consequences lead to good leadership,” says William Jones, director of physical education at University School Shaker Campus. “We’ve implemented a leadership program and the main goal of this program is to give accountability to our students through their choices of behavior. It’s important for [students] to be able to identify the behaviors they’re doing well and the behaviors they’re not doing so well and correct them. Leadership is realizing there is a need and choosing to help out. It’s realizing the importance of everybody. One of the goals of leadership is being self responsible and caring.”
