Beer Guide: Goldhorn Brewery

Can beer help revitalize a neighborhood? Rick Semersky, owner of Goldhorn Brewery, thinks so. As part of Semersky’s Hub 55 development in St. Clair Superior, the 10,000-square-foot space pays homage to the area’s Slovenian roots with Old World, Eastern European-style beers.

With a steady lineup of five classic beers to draw in crowds, brewer Joel Warger uses five 10-barrel fermenters and four 20-barrel fermenters to make favorites such as the Polka City Pilsner ($5 for 16 ounces). Brewed with Styrian Golding hops grown in Slovenia, the result is a crisp taste with a clean finish that’s a tasty tribute to our city’s past. “We have a very solid neighborhood with a lot of friendly people, so we try to honor those old [Eastern European] traditions while trying to forge ahead as well,” says Warger.

Our Pick: The Dead Man's Curve IPA ($5 for a pint), a heavily hopped American IPA that features a citrusy, tropical fruit aroma.
