The planning behind Char Whiskey Bar & Grille’s brunch menu is pretty genius — and much appreciated after a long night partying with friends.

“The brunch cocktails are more geared towards handling hangovers,” says Julie Mesenburg, who opened the casual Rocky River steakhouse with Gabriel Zeller last November. “The savory food pairs with the sweet drinks, which have just enough alcohol for that hair-of-the-dog effect.”

You’ll find seven options such as The NeverEnding Story-inspired Falkor ($10), a dreamlike concoction with dragonberry rum, coconut cream and an edible hibiscus flower.

Pair it with the hearty Char Hash ($9), a combination of smashed Yukon and sweet potatoes, onions, peppers and a sunny-side up egg served with Italian toast.

For those needing a musical reference to rev up your morning, order the Make You Better ($10) — a track by the Decemberists, as well as a Weller bourbon cocktail. Made with orange juice, lemon bitters and a dash of brut, it’s the sour cherry puree that packs an early (or mid-morning) punch.

“Its definitely something to get you going on a Saturday or Sunday morning,” says Mesenburg. 19337 Detroit Road, Rocky River, 216-712-4591, char-rockyriver.com
