Uptight Sugar is the type of band you pull out the good headphones for.
Songs like “Fell For You” soar with fuzzy guitars over lush, live orchestration. “Everybody Is Saying It (So It Must Be True),” which released in May, chugs along an enormous landscape as aural flares swirl in the distance.
“[Bands like Pink Floyd and the Beatles] paint pictures with sound, they know when to make something immense and when to make it small,” says guitarist, keyboardist and producer Mike Murray. “We want to capture that atmosphere.”
Before debuting in 2018 with Under Blue Light, Murray, guitarist Matt Vance and vocalist and keyboardist David Hamilton found their voice as the Sunrise Jones, a cover band, which has played at venues such as Music Box Supper Club since 2013.
“Reworking covers helped us evolve our sound,” says Hamilton, who says the band is set to release new singles this fall. “There’s no way you can play all these great songs and not get better.” uptightsugar.com
