Few art pieces fit as well in museums as they do in kitchens, but Threehexagon Studio's wooden bowls would be at home in either one. Artist William Stenson handcrafts wood items, such as salad bowls and square platters ($275-$1,275), with optical illusion-inducing patterns using mostly cherry, walnut and ash from an Amish kiln in Middlefield. "I play around with wood colors like a painter would play with paint," he says. His pieces, which can be found at the Shaker Square and Chagrin Falls farmers markets, often take up to 80 hours to complete. Stenson, who is a stickler for letting the beauty of the wood shine through, never stains or dyes his creations. "Nature has already made something extremely beautiful," he says, "so to throw a man-made tint on there for a desired effect is kind of silly to me." 818-388-0294, williamastenson.com
