You could fill your back pocket or purse with just any plain-old leather, fabric or nylon wallet. But Rigmarole’s funky paper versions offer a vibrant, colorful take on the old standby. Creator Chris Rutan started making her playful money holders in 2009, when she couldn’t find one she liked for herself. “I had this really cute floral paper that I wanted to use,” she says. “I wished it were fabric, but since it wasn’t I started looking around for something I could put over it.” Vinyl was her answer. Today, paper remains the inspiration for her wallets. She looks for designs with interesting shapes, patterns and colors. “I find them in local paper stores or online,” she says. “Sometimes I’ll hit up antique shops looking for old children’s books.” Attracted by patterns of robots, paper airplanes, peacocks and hot air balloons, customers on six continents have bought Rigmarole’s designs. “I don’t think Antarctica will happen, but it’s fun to dream,” she laughs. etsy.com/shop/rigmarole
