Nudes and pinks take the runway in the nail trends this season — and an elegant shape cultivates a look of sophistication. “Nails are longer, narrowing toward the tip and squared off,” says Marisa Paterniti, owner, Avanti Salon, in Chesterland.

This “coffin shape,” it’s called, is a departure from yesterday’s short, squared-off design. For other trend-setting nail techniques:

Get glam details: Feathering glitter accents nails with a touch of dazzle without going full-out bling.

Go long: Gel nails reduce chipping, add oomph to weaker nails and increase color longevity to two weeks versus one week for a typical manicure, Paterniti says.

Add surprise: Break monotony with an accent nail on each hand (usually the middle finger). “Accents nails are always fun for summer, and maybe that means adding shimmer or using a different shade on one nail,” Paterniti says.
