More than 2,500 people take to the course on this competitive 5K and 10K run and family fun walk — happening Aug. 12 this year — because it’s about more than pounding the pavement for a PR.

“It’s a festival and celebration of life and promoting the mission of Lifebanc, which is saving and healing lives through organ and tissue donation,” says Jillian Frazier, director of development and community services of the nonprofit. Blossom Music Center, 1145 W. Steels Corners Road, Cuyahoga Falls, golwr.lifebanc.org

She shares ways to get race ready.

Find your inspiration. Many people who participate are part of teams that celebrate or run for someone who has been touched by an organ, eye or tissue
donation.

Find a buddy. Training for a race is a lot less intimidating when a friend is part of the equation. Also consider starting or joining a team to stay on track.

Prepare for hills. This course has some elevation so Frazier suggests building inclines into your training protocol.
