With Cleveland Beer Week starting Oct. 10, we take a look at our city's craft beer lineage.

Though our craft beer history started in the 1860s with Lloyd and Keys, today's modern microbrews can be traced back to Great Lakes Brewing Co. The 26-year-old brewery behind best-selling beers such as Dortmunder Gold and Christmas Ale has tapped an extended family's worth of brewmasters in Northeast Ohio who got their start at the Ohio City mainstay. "We can hang our hat on the fact that these guys have gone on to great successes," says Luke Purcell, a Great Lakes Brewing Co. brewer. "And we have really good relationships with them."
