This family-owned restaurant feels like you’re walking into your fun uncle’s dining room — especially when co-owner Pete Moissis occasionally gives away free baklava to the first person who can guess the Steely Dan song playing in the background. Just like family fills you up, this place serves colossal portions such as the gyros made from hand-sliced ground lamb and beef loafs on rotisserie spits behind the counter. Conquering the Titan ($11) is no easy feat as it’s stuffed with 1 1/2 pounds of gyro meat. Topped with Arcadian spinach, red onions, diced tomatoes and a house-made tzatziki sauce made from cucumbers, low-fat Greek yogurt and olive oil from Crete, it requires patience, and silverware to slay this massive beast. Also Try: For a lighter Greek dish, slurp up the mussels Vasiliko ($10). Prince Edward Island mussels swim in a rich sauce of garlic, Romano, diced tomatoes, basil pesto and chardonnay. Another healthier alternative is the grilled Aegean ($11) with a pita hugging shrimp coated in lime juice, olive oil, balsamic, roasted red peppers, red onions and diced Kalamata olives. 11454 Uptown Ave., Cleveland, 216-707-4976, simplygreekfood.com
