Even free apps come with a price: turning over a portion of your iPhone's precious gigabyte allotment. We gave these three Cleveland-centric apps a quick test drive to determine whether they're worth a download.

CLEVELAND
METROPARKS ZOO

This app is fairly simple, and the maps aren't the most user-friendly, but it does offer plenty of information about zoo exhibits for curious visitors.


OHIO ICAC'S
SHAQ SHIELD

Prosecutor Bill Mason has Shaquille O'Neal's star power behind this guide to kids' Internet safety, but it's nothing a Google search couldn't turn up.

HISTORICAL

This slick app, arranged like pins on a map of Cleveland, lets you virtually explore the city at will. Think of it as a multimedia encyclopedia that fits in your phone.
