While the to-go dishes at Cilantro Thai & Sushi Restaurant might not be as artfully presented as they are dining in at the downtown Akron spot, they don’t lose the authentic Thai flavors, made with fresh ingredients that make the restaurant a takeout fave.

“Instead of putting dishes on the plate, we’ll just put them in the box,” says owner Charlie Somtrakool.

The Thailand native moved to the U.S. in 2001 and opened the restaurant in 2009 after a friend mentioned Akron lacked good Thai food. The spot’s offerings include the spicy noodle dish Pad Khee Mao or green curry-based Gang Keow Wan. Recently expanding their delivery radius from two to five miles, Cilantro also offers dozens of sushi options and will customize just about any dish to suit takeout diners.

“If you want to leave out something, add something, select your spice level — we have a lot of different options,” says Somtrakool.

Try This: The crab fried rice ($17.95) made with crab meat, fried rice, onions, tomato and an egg will have seafood lovers clawing for more.
