Developers have pitched a $1.6 billion data center complex for Cleveland’s East Side.
News | By Ken Prendergast, NEOTrans
Set between Cleveland’s Slavic Village and the industrial valley, it could be the city’s largest-ever data center in the coming years.
The Size: Proposed is a $1.6 billion, 150-megawatt data center campus comprising three buildings on 35 acres, currently owned by Morabito Enterprises, a longtime trucking firm at 3560 E. 55th St.
Morabito has been trying to sell its property off-market in recent years.
The $1.6 billion price tag makes it one of the most expensive private-sector real estate developments in Greater Cleveland's history.
The Power Drain: A 150 MW facility sits in the high-end of hyperscale, which is designed for high-density AI and cloud computing, consuming power equivalent to a small city.
Some estimates say such a facility’s power demands could equate to roughly more than 100,000 homes.
The Driving Force: Seeking the data center campus is Lakeland Equity Group, led by managing director Sam Khouri, whose family has been involved in many aspects of real estate in Greater Cleveland and beyond.

Check back tomorrow for the answer to today's question
The rise of data centers will be my generation's and Gen Alpha's greatest challenge. We were born in a world of ever-increasing data collection with new apps that have caught our attention. Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat and now TikTok.
Each one serves us a purpose. For me, Facebook is a tool to see what my family is up to. Instagram is more about seeing my friends' lives and watching reels. Snapchat was popular in high school, but I just have to see memories from then.
TikTok had my attention, but then, with the ban, no ban and selling our data to the highest bidder turned me off from it.
But when is it enough? When does our generation say no more apps? No more data collection?
If we do not say no soon. We may kill off the world to data centers and not oil rigs and coal mines. Trading one problem for another.
