Dance Cleveland Hires A New Executive Director

As Theresa Remick was working towards finishing her undergraduate degree in vocal performance at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York, the Minnesota native found herself drawn to the administrative aspects of concerts and recitals she organized — the true music to her ears. In June, Remick leaped into a new position as executive director of DanceCleveland, a stand-alone, dance-only organization based in Shaker Square.

“I think ultimately my job is to deliver on the mission of the organization which is bringing the passion of modern dance to Northeast Ohio, and thinking about, strategically, what are the ways that we can do that and if there are areas that we want to grow or adapt,” Remick says. As executive director, Remick is still figuring out how to expand modern dance in Northeast Ohio, but one of her main goals is to work with her colleagues to develop programming that aims to unite the community in response to the pandemic and the social justice movement.

“I think DanceCleveland has done such amazing work over the past 65 years to bring dance to Northeast Ohio and to really create opportunities for people to experience dance,” Remick says. “I’m very excited to think about how we can expand on that.”
