Built in 1923, Nighttown’s building has time-travel powers. The dim-lit, red-painted main lounge is classy enough to make you and your date want to drink like Prohibition is coming and jitterbug to some high-class jazz. Tonight’s for misbehaving, so order a dessert-before-dinner Chocolatini with a blend of vanilla and chocolate liquors, then duck through the red velvet curtains to a maze of three bars and six rooms. There’s plenty to gab about while you and your date explore the 65 plaques commemorating special moments couples have experienced in the establishment since 1971. If the night’s going right, maybe you’ll earn your own. As you take your seat in the Music Room and order the Famous Dublin Lawyer, a decadent rice dish where lobster swims in a cayenne butter cream and Irish whiskey sauce, the high-hat ticks and horns warble. “The music creates the ambiance and embellishes your evening out,” says owner Brendan Ring. 12387 Cedar Road, Cleveland Heights, 216-795-0550, nighttowncleveland.com After: Come down from your jazz-age jaunt with a nip of whiskey at Parnell’s Irish Pub up the street. The bar’s modern new spot still retains the rich wood bar top and the intimacy of the Lee Road location that made it famous. 12425 Cedar Road, Cleveland Heights, 216-321-3469, facebook.com/parnellspub #Culture #OldSchool #Moderate
