There’s ketchup (house made, of course), yellow mustard and onions for you traditionalists. But at Happy Dog, the list of toppings doesn’t end there. Grab a pencil and order form, and start marking off up to 50 toppings from the absurd (Fruit Loops) to the gourmet (warm pineapple-ginger-currant chutney) to the plain awesome (American Cheese Whiz). Pick as many as you like for your quarter-pound beef dog, all for $5. “It’s simple, it’s nostalgic,” chef Eric Williams says of the concept. “It’s eat-with-your-hands. It’s casual. But it’s not just a hot dog — it’s a whole experience.” Here’s to proving you can teach an old dog new tricks. 5801 Detroit Ave., Cleveland, 216-651-9474, happydogcleveland.com
