The Complete Funky Winkerbean, Volume I: 1972-1974

It's been 40 years since the world got its first look into the life of Funky Winkerbean. This anthology of the comic strip's first three years provides Funky fanatics — as well as the casual reader — with some insight into Tom Batiuk's now-famous character. Batiuk, an Akron native, includes a lighthearted and, at times, sentimental introduction. He shares details of his (and Funky's) journey, replete with publisher rejection letters, a wedding photo and childhood sketches.

A Little F'D Up: Why Feminism is Not a Dirty Word

As creator of the popular blog TheFBomb, Julie Zeilinger delivers a humorous and honest handbook that critically debunks myths about the feminist movement. The 19-year-old Pepper Pike native offers readers a crash-course in pioneering feminists, from suffrage advocate Susan B. Anthony to The Beauty Myth author Naomi Wolf, and makes the case that equality isn't about burning bras. Zeilinger examines enduring global issues (such as sex trafficking) and breaks down the feminist movement's current PR problems.
