Funshi’s slogan is “On a roll, fun for all,” and that pretty well sums up this local company’s concept. Since launching Funshi Sushi, Ramen and Boba in Rocky River just nine months ago, the family-run business has gone on to open a second restaurant in Avon and, now, a third in Beachwood. Number three is located in the former Bomba Tacos space at the corner of Cedar and Richmond at 2101 Richmond Road.
This latest location, which is slated to open on Dec. 15, will more closely mirror that in Avon thanks to its conveyor-belt arrangement. Tracks snake their way from the kitchen, through the well-designed restaurant, and back home again. On that belt is a never-ending selection of items such as edamame, California rolls, shrimp nigiri, futo maki rolls, spicy tuna rolls, shrimp tempura rolls, faux crab sticks, unagi, vegetable spring rolls and gyoza.
Diners can also skip the belt — or supplement it — and place orders via the tabletop tablet. Funshi offers an extensive menu appetizers, nigiri sushi, elaborate rolls, ramen, rice bowls and boba drinks. Those dishes arrive by means of a separate track system or a robot server.
Funshi Beachwood is the fourth conveyor-belt sushi restaurant to open in Northeast Ohio in the past few years. Diners appreciate the fun, affordability and efficiency of these tech-heavy eateries.
