What It's About

It’s always Throwback Thursday with John Skrtic’s daily doses of Cleveland history. The Cleveland Public Library director of public services mixes nostalgia like a DJ, sampling vintage ads from the city directory, forgotten photos and other picks from the library’s collections.

Inspiration
Long before he started tweeting in April, Skrtic was building a cache of rare items from his 25 years at the library. “I like to find the obscure things that people may not have seen,” says Skrtic. “I like the gritty, punk ‘70s-and-‘80s Cleveland, because I grew up on Superior downtown during that time.”

Why You Should Follow
More than just civic pride, the images have a pop art quality that gives a Warholian glimpse into the design, fashion and photography of different eras, from the 1800s to modern day.
