Go Red For Women (1)

Jan. 31, 2006 | 5:00 AM

Since its launch in February 2004, the Go Red For Women campaign has grown into a vibrant movement as more women, men, celebrities and health-care professionals embrace and elevate the cause of women and heart disease. The American Heart Association has made tremendous strides toward heightening awareness of heart disease in women. But there?s more work to be done.

Heart disease remains the No. 1 killer of American women and claims more lives than the next seven leading causes of death combined ? about 500,000 lives a year. It has become a reality for many women who live, work and thrive in our community. To answer the call, the American Heart Association has teamed up with Cleveland Magazine to provide women with the tools and resources they need to significantly reduce their risks of heart disease and live long, healthy lives

Go Red For Women is a nationwide movement celebrating the energy, passion and power of women who have joined forces to wipe out heart disease. It has become the cause of the decade and is sweeping the nation. Our success is the result of many talented, committed people coming together in a spirit of collaboration.

As you turn the pages of this special publication and read firsthand accounts from women who have been personally impacted by heart disease and are pinned to the cause, we hope that you will learn, be inspired and make a pledge to yourself to take steps toward a heart-healthy lifestyle.

To continue to fulfill our mission and support our goals, it is vital that you join us in this lifesaving effort. We challenge you to make a difference today by joining the Go Red For Women movement. Doing so just may save your life or the life of someone you love. Love your heart and Go Red in your own fashion! Wear it. Feel it. Live it.
