Join a Team with Cleveland Plays

Other than work and sketchy online meetup sites, there are few places for adults to make friends. “[Transplants] tell us if it wasn’t for Cleveland Plays, they would have never had a social life and would’ve tried to leave Cleveland as fast as possible,” says John Teel, owner and founder of the year-round, coed sports leagues that have connected active Clevelanders for 11 years. In July, Cleveland Plays launches its summer sessions, which include football, beach volleyball, kickball, dodgeball and soccer after-work leagues. In the past, it’s even hosted quirkier games such as bocce and bubble ball. “We wanted to give Clevelanders something fun and inexpensive to do other than go to the bars and get liquored up,” he says. But with fields in spots such as Whiskey Island, Mulberry’s bar and East 55th Street Marina, a celebratory postgame pint is a real option. Various locations, 216-410-2470, clevelandplays.com
