Washing our mouths out
I was offended to read Lola lead cook Frank Rogers’ verbatim quote about opening day business (“The Lola Moment,” November 2006) I am not so naïve to think that profanity is never used. However, I have not read it in any other upscale magazine. Michael Ruhlman’s decision to print the quote verbatim could have been a slip of the pen. The editor’s decision could have been to revise the choice of words or to paraphrase his comment. One miss is understandable. Two is construed as condoning. I am disheartened. I believe the magazine owes its readers an apology.

Correction: Our December 2006 article “Belly Dance Revolution” contained outdated information. Niko’s in Lakewood no longer hosts belly dancing. Belly dancer Leyla’s performance at Niko’s, described in the article, took place in January 2006. Leyla, Cassandra and some of their students still perform at Kan Zaman in Ohio City on Friday and Saturday nights, and they have recently started performing at Tannour’s in Pepper Pike on Thursday nights.

Tell Us Your Secret
Suburbanites: We want you to share what it’s like living in the ’burbs for our June “Rating the Suburbs” issue. So, if you’ve ever disciplined your neighbor’s kids, endured a property line dispute or have a strong opinion about how early is too early to display Christmas lights, you’ll want to take our survey. We won’t use your name — unless you’d like to be interviewed (though at the very least you’ll have to share your city of residence and e-mail address because we’re giving away a prize package to one lucky respondent and will need a way to contact you). Visit www.clevelandmagazine.com/suburbsurvey to find out more.
