Standing the Heat

The article "The Kitchen" [July 2004] was outstanding. It truly speaks to the obstacles, frustrations and hopes of a new restaurateur.

Where There's a Will

The article "Six So Small" from the April 2004 issue was very touching. I have much respect for the Hanselmans. Their respect for life in the unborn form, as well as courage in raising six babies, is inspiring.

ixed in with the beautiful story of sextuplets, something struck me as odd. Jennifer Hanselman was quoted in saying, "If God wanted [them] to have six babies, [they] didn't want to second-guess that," in reference to a physician advising them to selectively abort a few of the unborn children early on in the pregnancy. I agree that life begins at conception and no human has the right to end that life based on their own convenience.

However, Jennifer's logic is confused. She argues that she didn't want to interfere with God's plan for her children. Well, frankly, she interfered with God's plan by taking fertility drugs. Fertility drugs are not natural and if ¸od wanted her to have children, He would have blessed her with them naturally. I just don't think it makes sense to reference God at your own convenience to justify your own actions.

A Real Top Doc

I just wanted to give a little feedback on your "Top Docs" issue [March 2004], because you picked a good doc to be on the cover of your magazine. We know Dr. Tom Phelps is a father of four, yet he was in seeing patients — including our daughter — on Fathr's Day. My wife actually overheard him tell the nurse that he'd take five people an hour because there were so many patients calling about their sick children. Additionally, the following Friday after that Father's Day visit, Dr. Phelps called us at home at 6 p.m. to find out how our daughter was doing!
