Local Flavors
Support local restaurants during Cleveland Independents' Cleveland Restaurant Week Nov. 5 through 19. More than 50 restaurants throughout Northeast Ohio will feature three-course, prix fixe dinners with an average price of $33. "I love the fact I can stay in my own neighborhood. [And] it's affordable," says Jonathan Bennett, Cleveland Independents president and Moxie's executive chef. Visit clevelandindependents.com for menus.
Eating Green
Treat yourself to something green, and we don't mean exotic lizards. The Akron Zoo's Komodo Kingdom Cafe has earned four-star certification from the Green Restaurant Association. Komodo, the first in Ohio to gain the nonprofit's top honor, shares space with Galapagos turtles and king-size Komodo dragons. It has a full-scale recycling program and serves local meats from Fligner's in Lorain and produce from Boughton Farm in Copley. Look for more regional items on the menu soon. "We've been trying to get more local foods," says Akron Zoo food service supervisor Tiffany Orwig.
