Grill Guys
Chefs and owners Scott Slagle and Walter Hyde are giving Southern cuisine a local twist at the new Tavern of Solon. When their previous location Fat Casual in Macedonia closed due to ongoing road construction near the restaurant, the duo decided to open a new spot but still keep the focus on hickory-smoked barbecue. "We're going to have all of Fat Casual's menu items and plenty of new dishes," says Slagle. "We're buying all of our ingredients local and preparing dishes from scratch."
Polish Pride
Break out those babushkas for Cleveland's third annual Dyngus Day celebration on April 1. In addition to a parade and beer tent, Gordon Square Arts District restaurants such as Happy Dog, Spice Kitchen & Bar and The Harp celebrate the Easter Monday Polish tradition with dishes such as pierogies, kielbasa and stuffed cabbage. "Every restaurant is putting their twist on the Polish menu," says event coordinator Justin Gorski.
Slow Cooker
Prepare your taste buds for a mid-April debut of Nana's Southside BBQ in Tremont. Located in the former Vanessa's Pizza spot on West 14th Street, the restaurant will serve smoked baked beans with brisket and sweet corn truffle fritters alongside 12-hour smoked BBQ St. Louis or baby back ribs for the sweet affordable price of $15 or less. "Every chef brings his own culinary presence," says Daniel Cassano, executive chef and owner. "Southern BBQ is my expression of food."
