The first kosher Subway in North America has opened at the Jewish Community Center of Cleveland. The menu adheres to kosher dietary laws, eliminating ham and bacon while serving soy cheese and adding specialty items such as corned beef and pastrami. Molinari’s in Mentor has introduced 30 new items to its menu. A set of 15 SNAX, similar in size to tapas, and 15 new desserts are being offered, says chef-owner Randal Johnson. SNAX can be ordered as appetizers or independently, and include crabcake sliders with chipotle mayo, smoked duck wings with a honey soy glaze, and the runaway favorite, Kobe beef sliders with aged Tillamook cheddar. The inaugural Taste of Akron will feature lip-smacking samples from restaurants including Russo’s, Bistro on Main, Nick Anthe’s and Menches Bros., with signature desserts from the West Point Market. Part of the Akron Arts Expo, Taste takes place 6 to 9 p.m. July 20 at Hardesty Park. On July 21, more than 60 wines from Ohio vineyards will be uncorked at the expo’s eighth annual Wine Tasting and Silent Auction, 6 to 8:30 p.m. The wine tasting is $40 presale, $45 at the door. Gourmets in the Garden returns this summer as part of Wade Oval Wednesdays. Chefs from Aura Global Cuisine, fire food & drink, The Laura Paganini School of Cooking and more will offer demonstrations and samples from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesdays through Aug. 23 at the Cleveland Botanical Garden. The Culinary Vegetable Institute and Chef’s Garden, located in Milan, Ohio, is holding its annual Food & Wine Celebration July 15. Chefs from the Bravo program “Top Chef” are set to perform in a live competition. The fund-raiser benefits Veggie U, a program that teaches fourth-graders about healthy eating habits.
