One To Watch: Ted Tywang

Vice President, General Counsel, Cleveland Browns

by Jill Sell and Sarah Webb | Aug. 1, 2018 | 12:00 PM

Tywang's legal duties include everything “except what you want to hear about most — things like salary caps and trades.” But considering his responsibilities include government affairs, sponsorships, intellectual property and more, this lawyer holds our football team in his personal briefcase.

Why you're one to watch: “The Browns are worthwhile watching and are on the upswing. Also, the team owners, Dee and Jimmy Haslam, are very involved with the team and the community. By proxy, anyone associated with them and the team is worth watching. And I know how much this historic team means to people in Northeast Ohio. I am passionate about the Browns and the city.”

Biggest work challenge: “We are a two-person legal department so we have to know a little about a lot.”

Let’s get physical: Tywang played tennis for Georgetown University and is “a confirmed sports nut.” He and his wife, Bridget, also completed a seven-week backpack vacation through Southeast Asia and India.

On a mission: Tywang is a big supporter of the Cleveland Browns Foundation’s interest in local education. He is a board member of Engage! Cleveland and Cuyahoga Community College Foundation.
