JuJi's Bakery, Cafe, Deli and Grill
Can one restaurant be all things to all people? JuJi's tries, with a menu as ambitious as its name. Located off the lobby of the Statler Arms apartment building, JuJi's begins the day with standard American breakfast fare (though they do serve their pancakes and French toast with warm cinnamon-spiced apples). Bright, clean and quiet, it's the perfect place for a breakfast meeting. Their mini-café off Euclid Avenue offers coffee and baked goods for those on the go.
Lunch and dinner bring more diverse options, including Middle Eastern dishes such as hummus and sheesh tawook, deli sandwiches, burgers, steaks and salads. We started with the veggie fritters ($4.25), which included a crispy assortment of deep-fried mushrooms, onion rings and zucchini. Our stacked-high club ($5) was fresh and generous and coupled with fries for an additional 50 cents.
The Tuscan chicken ($5) combined grilled lemon-pepper chicken with bacon, melted provolone, lettuce, tomato and onion. The Monte Cristo panini ($4.75) features honey-baked ham and provolone grilled on panini bread. The shawarma roll ($4.50) includes marinated strips of beef and lamb served on a toasted pita with parsley, tomato, onions and topped with a tahini sauce ($4.50). While all three entries were flavorful, each suffered from bread that had been grilled or toasted just a little too long. It was the one ding in an otherwise pleasant and quite reasonably priced dining experience. Colleen Mytnick
