WHETHER YOU'RE A REMOTE CONTROL JUNKIE or prefer racing cars using good old-fashioned gravity, you'll love what's zoomed into Beachwood Place. American Hot Rod Racer, founded by Cleveland business partners Rick Maicki and Jack Prause, provides a place to build tricked-out remote-controlled or pinewood derby cars and race them. "Kids have an environment to display their creativity and put it to use, to build something that is their own," Prause says. Pinewood derby cars are $20, while remote-controlled cars run from $35 to $280. All prices include car materials, a "driver's license" that entitles the bearer to use the store's interactive track, and batteries. "It is good quality-time with the family," Prause says. "As a parent, that's a challenge to find." www.americanhotrodracer.com
