Rock Out at the Alternative Press Music Awards

After getting trumped by the RNC last year, the fourth annual Alternative Press Music Awards is returning July 17 to The Q. Dubbed the Grammys of alternative music, the award show stays true to the Cleveland-based punk magazine’s roots by emphasizing raw performances, such as past collaborations between Korn and Asking Alexandria or Joan Jett and Slash partnering with Laura Jane Grace. “We try to take somebody who’s iconic and have them work with an artist from the current generation,” says Mike Shea, who founded the Alternative Press fanzine in his mom’s Aurora house 30 years ago. “It’s an award show, but it’s also an amazing rock show.” Hosted by Black Veil Brides lead singer Andy Biersack, the show’s top honors include the fan-voted album of the year and industry legacy awards. This year, look forward to an all-weekend event with additional live shows at the Grog Shop and other venues. 1 Center Court, Cleveland, 216-631-1510, altpress.com/apamas2017
