Seen And Heard (13)

Jun. 19, 2008 | 4:00 AM

Todd Pownell (left) isn’t celebrating his 40th birthday the usual way. Instead, he and his brother, Travis (right), who turned 30 this year, are taking a 400-mile hike across Iceland and using the journey to raise money for Beachwood’s cancer support center, The Gathering Place. “I was really impressed with the way [The Gathering Place] connects the mind, body and spirit,” says Todd. “Me and my brother, that’s totally the way we think.” Todd, who owns Cleveland jewelry workshop TAP Studios, and Travis, a professional ballroom dancer, had already raised $1,200 two weeks before their June 25 departure (visit hikingiceland.kintera.org/tgp to donate). The monthlong trip will be a tough one, but Todd is confident. “It’s just putting one foot in front of the other.”
