Weezer capped its Oct. 8 concert at the Wolstein Center by inviting 19-year-old Joey Catullo of Mayfield Village onstage to play guitar on the band’s hit “Undone.” “They’ve been my favorite band since I was 9 years old,” a still-jazzed Catullo tells us. When the Bowling Green State University student heard Weezer had been inviting a fan on stage each night to perform the song, Catullo made a sign announcing he could do it and snagged a spot near the right front of the stage. He was almost too prepared. The band’s bass player asked if anyone other than “the guy with the sign” knew the song before finally giving Catullo the nod to join the band onstage. “My first thought was Oh no, I don’t have a pick,” Catullo recalls. Once Weezer drummer Pat Wilson remedied that situation, Catullo ably rocked out with the band and went home with the guitar he used onstage as a souvenir. Beats a dog-eared ticket stub any day.

Over the years, the WNCX-FM afternoon drive-time disc jockey and rocker has depleted his personal stock of solo and Michael Stanley Band releases, almost all of which were available on disc at one time, by giving them away to friends and acquaintances. Now, he’s resorted to logging on to eBay to compile complete sets of his work for his three young grandchildren. “I had to pay $45 for one of my own CDs (MSB’s ‘Ladies’ Choice’) so I could complete the collection for one of these infants who won’t care anyway,” he gripes good-naturedly. “I got into a bidding war with somebody. I wanted to go, ‘Dude, it’s my record!’ ”
