Few things are more charming than a brew and a book. The first Tuesday of every month, Bookhouse Brewing hosts a book swap where guests give up selected tomes and connect with other lit lovers. “It tends to be when the highest quality of books show up,” says co-owner Luke Brevoort. Here are three of our takeaways this month.

Holy Cow by David Duchovny

The truth is out there and Elsie Bovary is a cow desperate to find it when she teams up with a Torah-reading pig and a flightless turkey to escape life on a farm.

Fates and Furies by Lauren Groff

This intimate tale of a married couple weaves multiple threads; midway through the book, the narrative perspective switches from husband to wife, flipping the script on what we know about the characters.

Mr. Penumbra’s 24-Hour Bookstore by Robin Sloan

After losing his job as a high-tech web designer, Clay Jannon becomes a bookkeeper caught up in a surrealist adventure that meshes secret societies and Old World systems with futuristic technology.
