This June, high above Wade Oval, we toasted the summer solstice with margaritas, mingled with beautiful 30-something social-scenesters and gazed out on a king’s-eye view of University Circle. A few times a year, the Cleveland Museum of Natural History’s Nature League, its membership group for professionals, breaks into a party: rooftop solstice carousing, an exhibit preview party, a “wild and scenic” film festival (Nov. 15), and a Halloween party indoors that attracts about 500 people for some serious costume-vogueing. The Nature League also organizes a cross-country ski outing and several hikes a year through the museum’s 23 private natural areas throughout northern Ohio. Members pay $85 a year and get a full museum membership and discounts to all organization events. But the parties are the biggest draw, and you needn’t be a member to attend. Just don’t get drunk and trip over Balto. 1 Wade Oval Drive, Cleveland; (216) 231-4600 ext. 3340; cmnh.org (click “Get Involved”), mhromyko@cmnh.org
