We Tried It (1)

While many fans say “Rubber Soul” is the album that marked the Beatles’ transformation, the songs that accompany the 1965 film “Help!” first reflected the Fab Four’s initial steps beyond their teen-idol beginnings. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum explores this pivotal period in the band’s history with its new exhibit, Help! Behind the Scenes of the Beatles Movie, which runs through March 30. Life-sized cutouts of the band and larger-than-life movie stills immerse visitors in the period, but it’s the artifacts that steal the show. It’s ridiculously cool to see the handwritten lyrics to “Ticket to Ride,” “Help!” and “Yesterday,” but the goose-bumps moment for any Beatles fan is standing before John Lennon’s acoustic guitar from the film—the same one he used years later to record “Give Peace a Chance.”
