We Tried It: Platform Beer Co. Seltzer Series

The low-calorie seltzer trend hits Ohio City.

Low-calorie, low-carb, low-gluten diets aren’t exactly conducive to a beer-loving life — but the new hard seltzer trend offers a delicious, boozy loophole for those of us trying to keep things light.

Now, Platform Beer Co., has gotten in on the game, lining up a Seltzer Series that will release two fruity flavors each quarter. Black Cherry, one of the first releases, clocks in at 5-percent alcohol percentage and just 110 calories, making it a refreshing alternative to standard beer and wine — and with a slightly less alcohol-forward flavor.

The malt hides beneath a robust fruit flavor (from natural flavors, not extracts), offering up a subtle, bubbly taste that’s closer to a La Croix than a cocktail.

Snag the Black Cherry and its companion release, Grapefruit-Tangerine, before they disappear in April — and keep an eye out for upcoming flavors, including Acai Raspberry and Blood Orange Yuzu, throughout the year. 4125 Lorain Ave., Cleveland, 216-202-1386, platformbeer.co
