Ohio City may be known for its bustling nightlife, but you'll find us heading to the neighborhood for pre-noon fun since the December opening of Jack Flaps. The pancake-packed collaboration between Momocho's owner Eric Williams and chef Randy Carter includes creative items such as the breakfast banh mi ($8.50) made with Vietnamese sausage, a fried egg, kimchee and cream cheese on a baguette and candied jalapeno pancakes ($9.50) topped with white chocolate mole sauce and a salted caramel coffee crumble. "We do our best to make everything from scratch, including smoking the pork belly out back for bacon and hand-churning cream to make butter," says Williams. "The entire focus is well-executed, unique flavor combinations of breakfast dishes served in a cool little joint." Cool it is, thanks to playful murals of the owners getting smashed in the head with eggs and a happy hour (from 1 to 3 p.m.) when all pancakes and waffles are just $5. As an added bonus, Tremont's City Roast Coffee is poured tableside in paper cups, so you can fill up on your way out. 3900 Lorain Ave., Cleveland, 216-961-5199, jack-flaps.com
