If you're looking for a truly local fish fry, look no further than Larder Delicatessen and Bakery.
Hosted most Fridays, this fish fry from chef Jeremy Umansky and his James Beard Award-nominated deli features rotating catches of Lake Erie white fish, perch, walleye and more.
"We have the world's largest fresh water resource on our doorstep," says Umansky, who notes that using Lake Erie fish can be challenging right now due to the ice sheet over the lake. "We want to use the resource we have in a responsible and sustainable way. We source our fish from Kate's Fish at the West Side Market, who source it from fishermen in Port Clinton. So, the steps to getting it is something lands in Port Clinton and we have it that day."
This week kicks off with fried smelt with slaw, tartar sauce and fries. Going forward, sides will change based on what's seasonally available. While you're there, find a delicious way to donate to Ukraine's fight against Russia.
"We're using the freshest fish possible," says Umansky. "Plus it's more affordable."
