Cavs All-Star Spreads The Love
Kevin Love may be a five-time NBA All-Star and one of the few remaining Cleveland Cavaliers from the 2016 championship team, but his off-court contributions are just as impressive. As part of Verizon’s Class of 2020: Ready for Anything virtual commencement series, Love joins a list of celebrities, including former President Bill Clinton, who will speak for 30 minutes, closing with an interactive Q&A. Every Friday will feature different speakers, with Love slated for tomorrow. The power forward was also named as a finalist for ESPN’s Muhammad Ali Sports Humanitarian Award thanks to his contributions to the mental health field, which include creating the Kevin Love Fund, an organization committed to normalizing mental health dialogue.
Cleveland Orchestra Extends Lunch Special
For the foreseeable future, you can bring the Cleveland Orchestra with you to your lunch break with Lunchtime with the Cleveland Orchestra. Every weekday from noon to 1 p.m., WCLV Classical 104.9 Ideastream will continue to air presentations from the ensemble’s recording and concert history, such as Beethoven’s Adagio from Symphony No. 9 Choral tomorrow. This lunch special started on April 6 as a way to help connect with listeners among the COVID-19 pandemic, which is music to our ears since the Cleveland Orchestra was forced to cancel its summer performances. For a complete schedule of performances, check out the orchestra’s Facebook page.
The Big Yellow Mailbox Delivers Hope At University Circle
What’s the hardest thing you’ve ever had to do? Now more than ever could be a time to confront that question rather than bury it, something that Allison Meyer learned after her mother’s death in a 2016 traffic accident. As a result, Meyer launched Never, Ever Give Up Cleveland, which collects anonymous, handwritten letters of hope answering that question in a yellow mailbox and displays them online and in public installations. In response to the pandemic, University Circle Inc. and Never, Ever Give Up Cleveland have teamed up to launch another mailbox in the University Circle East Plaza at the corner of Euclid Avenue and Mayfield Road. For more information, how to submit a letter and examples of previously submitted letters, head here.
Momocho's Recipes Spice Up Your Taco Tuesdays
Ohio City’s Momocho is one of 100 independent restaurants from all over the country that are participating in United We Cook, an initiative-based recipe book that was created to help support independent restaurants and other people in need of basic necessities who have been affected by COVID-19. Grab the book ($30) for recipes to make the spot's popular goat cheese guacamole or machaca taquitos. All proceeds from the book, which can be purchased here, will go to participating restaurants and local food banks.
Cleveland Gets A Glimpse Of Sunshine
There was plenty to be gloomy about the last couple months. And the weather was one of them. (It snowed! In May!) But we’re finally seeing some sunlight at the end of the tunnel thanks to summer-ready weather that kicked off just in time for Memorial Day weekend. As we all slowly emerge from our homes and venture outdoors, the vitamin D is a welcome respite from the world.
