Cleveland gonna Cleveland. Fans were shocked when the team traded away the No. 2 pick to the Jacksonville Jaguars and back to the No. 5 pick. Cleveland missed out on Travis Hunter but picked up the stud Michigan lineman (as well as a bunch of picks). Here are CM contributor Dennis Manoloff's three takeaways from the draft.
Browns Trade Down
"I didn't like it. I'm not going to like it for a long time. The Browns had a shot at a generational two-way player in Travis Hunter (Colorado) and an edge rusher extraordinaire Abdul Carter (Penn State), and the Browns came away with neither of those two.”
Why Not Hunter?
Hunter not only played offense and defense, he was last year's Heisman Trophy Winner. He was probably the best corner back AND the best wide receiver in the draft. "Would have electrified the city. Get the fan base fired up. Oh and by the way, he's a terrific player."
Rescue the Draft
The Browns do have a chance to redeem themselves tomorrow with the first pick of the second round, where some think they'll take Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders. "It's really frustrating being a Browns fan. Once again, the Browns outsmarted themselves. They'll tell you they didn't. But right now, it stings that the Browns did what they did."
