We know you've got that DAWG in you, Cleveland fans. Now, it's time to get that DAWG on you — in the form of a new logo for your Cleveland Browns.
For the past three weeks, the Browns organization has been collecting fan-submitted designs for a new secondary logo. The logo, a Mastiff dog, was selected by fans in a similar, bracket-style process to the one that led to Brownie the Elf being placed on the 50-yard line last year.
After collecting nearly 400 submissions, the organization has narrowed it down to five logos. Starting today, fans can vote on their favorites. One of those logos was selected by the popular fan vote and designed by Emily Morgan.
Here at Cleveland Magazine, we're big fans of our fury, four-legged friends — as exemplified in our annual Cleveland's Cutest Pets contest So, we wanted to get in the game by ranking our favorites among the five options.
5. While there's a certain charm to the fan-submitted option — and we may even root for it because of the feels — the stretched out profile and uber muscular dog neck is not something we'd wear on a T-shirt. Still, it's pretty cool that the teeth feature a nod to the laces on a football.
4. The profile just isn't working for us. That and a little too much color blocking knocks this design down a notch, however, we are offering points for the old-school vibe.
3. Now it gets tough. We truly like all the straight-on looks. But while we appreciate the fun, vintage vibe of this design, maybe it's just a little too cartoonish for a team that's been easy enough to lampoon over the years
2. This selection is giving classic Browns dog vibes the most, which is simple and still truly our favorite dog logo. Yet, if we want vicious on the field, maybe we need to go a little more nasty with the logo.
1. Thus, we believe the next logo should be this mysterious mastiff. This pup — with invisible eyes classic, a razor-sharp collar and flowing jowls — is classy, modern, subtle and scary. While we'd be happy with any of the top three, this logo is sure to strike fear in the hearts of Steeler fans come September.
