In a time of shelter-in-place, there’s nothing more exciting than a surprise gift bag sitting on your doorstep. Small business owners such as Kate Fortney, owner of Lovely Paperie & Gifts and Babycakes Children’s Boutique in Rocky River, have been getting creative by selling care packages for customers to send to their loved ones. “So many of our clients have expressed just wanting to be there for family and friends and not knowing how because they’re not able to physically see them,” says Fortney. “This was the next best thing they could do.” Here’s a few ways to show you care.
Daisy Cakes’ Make Your Own Cake Pop Kit ($20)
Quarantine boredom has families baking up a storm, and this cake pop kit from Daisy Cakes has everything you need to try your hand at this tricky treat. The kit includes cake dough, chocolate for the outer shell, 12 sticks, sprinkles, a drying stand and instructions. As a teacher at Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy, Daisy Cakes owner Amy Mucha first created this kit for her students, and she began selling it online a few weeks ago. It combines her two passions: crafting and dessert. “It’s essentially like playing with play dough for adults,” says Mucha. “It’s like doing a craft, but you get a sweet treat at the end of it.” Order online at daisycak.es or email hello@daisyca.kes. Items can be shipped anywhere in the U.S.
Lovely Paperie & Gifts and Babycakes’ Stay at Home Boxes ($30-$60)
These packages, always neatly placed in a gift bag with tissue paper, can be filled with any combination of accessories, children’s toys, home goods or cards. For example, Stay at Home Box No. 18 ($56) includes checkers, a book of 4,000 questions and an art cube, while Stay at Home Box No. 15 ($44) includes all of the items you need to celebrate your birthday at home — think balloons, a banner and noisemakers. “When [your loved one] opens the mailbox, and it’s not just a bunch of bills, and they see something happy from a loved one, it means so much,” says owner Kate Fortney. Order online at lovelypaperieandgifts.com or call 216-767-5277. Items can be hand-delivered to any doorstep in the Cleveland area and shipped anywhere in the U.S.
Sacred Hour Spa Packages ($200-$300)
This is a perfect time for self-care, and Lakewood’s Sacred Hour spa packages are great gifts for anyone who needs a little extra pampering. Sacred Hour has teamed up with local takeout favorites Brewnuts and Dewey’s Pizza to provide treats alongside Champagne or wine and a Sacred Hour gift card. “In the next coming weeks to a month, we’re going to be inside, and we can use the items to brighten your day up a little bit,” says owner Tabitha Baker. Skincare products, robes and tinctures are also available if customers want to create a customized gift or replenish products that have run out. Call 216-228-9750 for delivery.
