While clean, elegant decor is essential for most homes, posters and prints are the perfect way to keep from feeling too much like an adult. Leaning into his quirky, observational humor, Scott Mendenhall opened his Etsy shop, Drawn From My Brain, in order to feature designs such as the “Know Your French Fries” print ($22.99). “My main goal is just to make people smile,” he says. After visiting a restaurant with his family that lacked regular fries, but hosted numerous variations of the fried delicacy, Mendenhall was curious to know exactly how many different types of fries there were. “That’s how it took off,” he says. “And I put little smiley faces on there to make them happy and fun.” Not only was the French fry print one of Mendenhall’s firsts, it was also featured on BuzzFeed, making this one of the best ways to get educated on the 16 varieties of featured fries. From his trusty leather chair in his house, Mendenhall sketches and watercolors his creations such as his “Advice from a Hermit Crab,” another illustration that offers some tips for introverts. “It’s a journey. I wish I could say I’m getting rich,” he says. “But I really get a lot of satisfaction when I’m making people happy. That’s a big thing for me.” etsy.com/shop/drawnfrommybrain
