Hidden History of Lake County Ohio ($21.99)
I can’t resist a story about an amusement park built upon the sands of a shipwreck — neither can Jennifer Boresz Engelking. With a portion of October profits going toward Alex’s Fluffy Buddies, I purchased a copy of Hidden History of Lake County Ohio. I haven’t waded far into the book yet, but as I flip through its pages I’m excited; Gravity Hill, the Melonheads, Madison Seminary — these are the stories I heard as a kid, no longer snippets of rumor in school hallways, but compiled into a volume about the region I call home. jenniferboresz.com

Santal and cedar candle from Room Service Boutique ($32.50)
Another fall season, another scented candle I will inevitably burn out far too quickly. This santal and cedar candle is hand-poured in Nashville and one of the many highly-curated items you can find at Room Service boutique in Shaker Heights’ Van Aken. Everything in the shop will make you feel extra luxurious and classy when it comes to everyday chores or routines. For me, this soy wax candle is going on my coffee table so it can serve as a necessary addition to my winding down ritual after work. It has a smell that is both refreshing and comforting, with a slightly smokey base that puts you in a cozy mood immediately. rscleveland.com

Le Chateau de Franklin Sweatshirt from Oceanne ($54)
Back in the day, my dad loved nothing more than waking up early on Saturday and taking us kids to the Westside YMCA on Franklin Boulevard, which was three blocks east from the Franklin Castle and has since been converted into upscale condos. It was hard to say which was spookier — the castle or the gym, which featured an attendant behind bars and an aging line-up of gymnastics apparatus that I never saw anybody use. We’d play basketball and then, my brother and I would knock around on the horse or bars while my dad ran laps on the wooden track. This black-and-white unisex sweatshirt takes me right back to those days, while keeping me cozy and just the right amount of cool. oceanne.net

Masthead Brewing Co.’s Haunted Hayride Pumpkin Ale ($10.99)
Among a vast patch of pumpkin ales, I closed my eyes and snagged this Cleveland brewery’s fall ale. The Haunted Hayride is an amber ale brewed with pumpkin, cinnamon, nutmeg and ginger. I found it mildly spicy, boozy, not overly sweet and more nutmeg than pumpkin. I’ll put it in a coozie on Halloween and let the 7.3% ABV warm me up as I hand out candies to the kiddies. mastheadbrewingco.com
