YOU: Being Beautiful isn’t your usual beauty book. Cleveland Clinic chief wellness officer Dr. Michael Roizen and The Oprah Winfrey Show health expert Dr. Mehmet Oz focus on managing stress and money and improving relationships as much as skin and hair care. “The more beautiful you look and feel, the happier you are,” they write. “And the happier you are, the more beautiful you look and feel.” This book also offers some little-known health advice: Creams containing at least 1 percent vitamin A and C are effective in improving skin, but only if applied at night. “As soon as they’re exposed to light, they’re oxidized, so they have no benefit,” Roizen explains. They also advise that repeatedly inhaling powders made with talc (magnesium silicate) and the common mineral titanium dioxide may lead to chronic lung inflammation and even cancer.
