The thrills of Cedar Point typically come from the enormous roller coasters, but now the rush comes from a trip back in time. The inaugural Frontier Festival, June 7-30, transforms the park’s Frontier Town into a family-friendly, Wild West jamboree, complete with old-timey decor, costumed chorus girls, artisan demos, live bluegrass tunes, pie-eating contests and more. “There’ll be costumed characters out there to help you learn and dance with you and really make it a party atmosphere,” says Kristy Bacni, digital communications manager. Take in the scene while feasting on Great Plains Bison Chili fresh out of the pot or sipping a blueberry-raspberry lemonade or craft beer. There are plenty of ways for the kids to let loose too — a craft area invites tots to make paper cowboy boots and decorate coloring pages with sunflowers. “It’s all about being wild,” says Bacni. 1 Cedar Point Drive, Sandusky, 419-627-2350, cedarpoint.com
