Fashioning Identity: Mola Textiles of Panama at the Cleveland Museum of Art
Opening this Sunday, this immersive exhibit delves into the vibrantly colored traditional clothing of the indegineous Guna women of Panama. It focuses around a specific piece of clothing called the mola, a hand-sewn blouse, which has been a part of traditional dress since the 20th century and later became a symbol of culture, identity and independence. The series of blouses showcase a variety of different intricate designs, colors and geometric patterns and span from across distinct periods of Guna history between 1925 and the 1980s.
