Cheer On At Local Sporting Events

Whether it's supporting a good cause, hooping, or BMX, any of these athletic outings are a good time.

Sandy Moreno, a former engineer from Hartford, Connecticut, survived an urgent heart transplant in 2004. From June 10 to 15, she’ll use that trial as motivation to compete in Cleveland during the Donate Life Transplant Games, an Olympics-style sporting event for organ donors and recipients. “I’m not looking to win any medals,” Moreno says. “If I can just compete with people like me, then I will feel stronger inside. Because when I get around [other survivors], I don’t feel like a transplant patient. I feel like a regular person.” The games come to Cleveland for the first time with more than 6,000 athletes duking it out in contests from a 10K race to Texas Hold ‘em and ballroom dancing all to raise awareness about how organ donation can truly save a life.
